  • Vogue Fashion Night Out 2013

    November 3, 2013 • Culture

It was every fashion enthusiast’s dream. On October 10th, Manchester was captivated by fashion as, for the first time ever, Vogue’s “Fashion’s Night Out” was brought up North. The event had been held four times before, each time in London; so when the Vogue team finally decided they wanted a change of scene, Editor-In-Chief of British Vogue Alexandra Schulman said: “naturally Manchester was our first choice”. • A Tragic Obsession?

    November 3, 2013 • Culture

  • An Introduction to Anchor Prices

    Something You Probably Never Realised

I’m sure we’ve all been on many long journeys within the UK where a stop at a service station has been the highlight of the trip. If it wasn’t the highlight, you’ve obviously never travelled from Manchester to Cornwall with a fetid panting dog resting on your lap. I’m also sure you’ve probably had a right good rant at the ‘extortionate’ prices being charged, be it by WH-Smith, Costa Coffee or KFC. Suddenly three chocolate bars for a pound looks a lot better than one for a pound. The question most people will ask is why are prices a lot higher at service stations? We, the consumers, are supposedly acting as rationally as possible, yet this question is only asked as a result of undetectable subconscious mechanisms. Ladies and Gentlemen, I introduce you to anchor prices. You’ve probably already met them, you just have never realised. Continue Reading

  • What Next for Labour?

    November 2, 2013 • Featured, Politics

It goes without saying that we live in very different times to when the Labour Party was founded in the late 1800s, or indeed to when Clause IV was rewritten in 1997. Britain needs new politics for a new generation. With prevailing economic fragility, social division and broad uncertainty, Labour need to make their case as the party that can offer real hope in time for the next election. In light of this, I’ve set out my five-point plan for success in 2015. Continue Reading

Spotlight on Women’s Football in England

Football is growing. In 1888 it was a game played between twelve teams in England, now it’s a game enjoyed by 265 million players worldwide. Gone are the days of elitism; now are the days of inclusivity, and women are no exception...
